Game Design

During my studies, I worked on 3 games as a Game Designer.                                                            Talked about here:
I also participated in a few game jams with amazing people.
Here are some highlights :

Slide Bros

PC - 2 Players co-op - Bobsleigh racing game

Made in 5 days as part of an assignment :
- Racing game
- 2 players co-op or competition
- Assigned teams

We decided to go for the co-op option.
I was in charge of the level design and the design of the 3Cs.

Excerpt from the Game Design Document

We went for a camera at the back of the bobsleigh, that went further away as the speed increases.
We have 2 characters that can move in the 4 cardinal directions, inside a bobsleigh that is reacting to the sum of their movements.
In clear :
- If 1 player goes left, and the other goes right, it will go straight. 25%-25% =0% force
- If 1 player goes left and the other does nothing, it will slightly turn left. 25% force
- If the 2 players turn left, it will strongly turn left. 100% force

There is a trigger to accelerate and another one to brake for both player.
We added an extra input for pure gamefeel that lets the player trigger a bark.

Players’s point of view

The players have to make the best time, whilst avoiding trees and snowmen scattered on the track.

Date Night

VR - Single player - Wheelchair-stealth game

Final project of 1st year :
- 1 Game Designer / 1 Game Artist / 1 Ergonomist / 2 Programmers
- 4 months
- Complete game that can be finished in 15 min

I pitched the game, which originally was more of a sandbox with silly puzzles.
After a few prototypes and meetings, it became a stealth game.

I wanted to tackle an original method of moving around in VR.
And play around with a funny narrative.
Which resulted in a game where the player is in a wheelchair and attempts to escape from a retirement home.

I was in charge of the level design, game design and management of the team.

First prototype of the controller

The player is seated and has to copy the movements of the hands on the wheels of a wheelchair.
One of the buttons lets them grab the wheels. Another one lets them grab items.
This way, they can move and carry items at the same time.

They also have a small storage on their lap.

Final Controllers

The controls entirely replicate the movements of a wheelchair.
We had to adapt the speed and put speed caps in order to limit the motion sickness in-game.
We also used a type of vignettage to reduce the vision field according to the movement speed of the player.

AI Behaviour

The player only has one opponent : a nurse that only chases them when they enter her field of vision.
She has probability detection areas. At long range, there’s a 25% chance that she will notice movement in her vision cone.
It gets higher the closer the player gets to the nurse.

When noticing a player, she will chase them until they get out of her vision field.
She has a sense of earing limited to certain items, that can be used to attract her.
She does not patrol.
